National Children’s Theatre is celebrating 30 years of Children’s Theatre Excellence. Since its establishment in 1989, NCT has built on its reputation as a leader in educational children’s theatre. NCT has made its mark by providing artistic excellence, building community partnerships, and developing a new generation of theatre supporters through entertaining, engaging, and most importantly, educational programmes.

This is an exciting time at NCT as we home in on the final production of the year. It’s a first for NCT – and a first for the play to be staged in South Africa – next up we are thrilled to have obtained the rights to stage Roald Dahl’s delightful story, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, from 28 October through the school holidays until 22 December 2019. This classic children’s book has stood the test of time and is still as popular today as when it was first published over 50 years ago. And it loses none of its appeal in this dramatization for the stage by Richard George, with the approval of Roald Dahl himself.

Join Charlie Bucket on his adventure of a lifetime. His plain, drab life is about to sweeten with colour and confection beyond his wildest dreams. He and his beloved Grandpa embark on a mesmerizing joyride through a world of pure imagination. All your favourite (and un-favourite!) Roald Dahl characters come to life onstage, including Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, TV Mike, the other grandpa and the grandmas, Willy Wonka and of course, Charlie himself.

Directed by Jenine Collocott, this is a must-see treat for the whole family!
Sets. Costumes, and Lighting are by veteran NCT loyal heavyweights Stan Knight, Sarah Roberts and Jane Gosnell respectively, Musical Director is Dale Scheepers, and Choreography is by Phillida le Roux.
Due to the popularity of this production, days are booking up, so we strongly recommend making reservations soon.
