Oh No There Isn’t!  Oh Yes There is!!
Joburg Theatre won’t leave you without a Panto treat this Festive Season

Every year, theatre patrons look forward to watching the annual pantomime at Joburg Theatre. This 30-year-old tradition is a chance for those of all ages to enjoy light hearted fun for a couple of hours with their family and friends, to start the celebrations of the festive season and to bid the year farewell.

This year, however, was different, and producers Joburg Theatre and Bernard Jay had to announce the postponement of 2020’s pantomime Cinderella until 2021 for health and safety reasons.

“The festive season is a time to come together as a family to share stories. This year we took a very difficult decision to postpone the 2020 pantomime Cinderella until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, we are excited to be treating our patrons to previous Janice Honeyman pantomimes on digital platforms to add more magical moments as we take theatre to the comfort of their homes. We hope you enjoy watching with us and wish you good health, rest and recovery during this season as we prepare to come back with our normal programming in the new year,” says CEO of Joburg City Theatres, Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema.

Cinderella will be on The Nelson Mandela Theatre stage from November 6th to December 24th 2021, but in the meantime Joburg Theatre will spread some joy and cheer by streaming four previous pantomimes from December 12th to December 31st 2020. These are: Jack and the Beanstalk (2012); Aladdin (2013); Peter Pan (2014); and Sleeping Beauty (2015).

The 2012-2015 Joburg Theatre pantomimes are streamed courtesy of M-Net and the participating artists and creative teams.

The pantomime streaming schedule is as follows:

Jack and the Beanstalk (2012): 12 December – 16 December 2020.
Aladdin (2013): 17 – 21 December 2020
